Scudoflex FlameShield IRC-20/2H is a high-performance intumescent flame-retardant coating designed for passive fire protection.
The product is intended for high-risk structural and cellulosic substrates and forms an insulating carbonaceous char when exposed to high heat.
This guide summarises the principal information available on the current Scudoflex product page and should be read together with the latest official datasheet before specification.

Fire-performance information
The current product page identifies:
ISO 11925-2 / 2-hour flame resistance
and describes the coating as providing up to two hours of direct flame protection according to the manufacturer's stated product criteria.
This information should be presented together with the applicable test documentation. A product page statement should not be treated as a substitute for a project-specific fire engineering assessment.
Intumescent reaction
The coating's key mechanism is intumescence.
When exposed to high heat, it undergoes an endothermic reaction and expands to produce a thick microporous carbonaceous char.
The char forms a thermal barrier that reduces heat transfer to the underlying substrate.
Compatible applications
FlameShield is listed for:
Structural: Steel beams, columns and reinforcement.
Building services: Ductwork and cable trays.
Cellulosic: MDF, plywood, particle board, timber, frames and studs.
Building elements: Fire walls, fire doors, staircases, concrete and gypsum boards.
Application procedure
01 — Surface preparation
The substrate must be clean, dry and structurally sound, with oil, grease, loose rust and particulate contamination removed.
02 — Application
Apply using:
- Brush
- Roller
- Heavy-duty airless spray
For thicker builds, use multiple uniform coats.
03 — Inter-coat drying
The manufacturer specifies a minimum four-hour inter-coat interval at ambient temperature for thick-build applications.
04 — Storage
Store unopened containers between 10°C and 30°C in a shaded, well-ventilated area and protect from frost and moisture.
FlameShield for Pakistan projects
For consultants, contractors and procurement teams in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the correct procurement package should include the product datasheet and relevant project documentation.
A technical submittal should normally identify:
- Product
- Manufacturer
- Substrate
- Primer
- Required fire performance
- Tested system
- Required thickness
- Application method
- Environmental conditions
- Test documentation
